What it does

A back office that starts with the shop: today's figures, a menu built around orders and a profile for each person.

Commerce Dashboard turns the WooCommerce admin into a back office that starts with the shop instead of with WordPress. It adds a Commerce Dashboard under WooCommerce, redraws the menu around the things a shop does and gives each person a profile, so they open on the part of the shop they work in. It adds to wp-admin and never replaces it: every page is still the one WordPress and WooCommerce provide, and the standard admin is one link away.

The dashboard shows what matters today: today's sales against yesterday, orders today, average order value, orders needing attention, a 7 or 30 day sales chart, recent orders, best-selling products, low stock products and failed or on-hold orders. Fifteen further widgets can be added: abandoned checkouts, refunds, failed payments, top customers, repeat customers, products with no sales, slow-moving stock, nearly out of stock, sales by category, product, payment method, shipping method and source, coupon performance and customer growth. Sales are paid orders (Processing and Completed) less refunds, on the shop's own clock, and the figures are kept for a few minutes and refreshed as soon as an order or a product's stock changes.

Everyone opens on the right thing. There are four ready-made profiles, Owner or Manager, Warehouse, Customer Service and Marketing, and you can make custom profiles with their own name, description, layout, menu groups and landing page. A profile is one value on a user account, so no user roles are created. Role rules give everyone with a WordPress role a profile without setting people up one by one, and a person override gives one person a different profile or landing page. People who can work on the shop start on the Owner or Manager profile, so they open on the Commerce Dashboard straight after activation: it opens in place of the WordPress dashboard when they sign in or click Dashboard, the WordPress dashboard is always one link away, and you can turn it off for the whole shop, for each profile and for each person.

The dashboard builder lets you choose the widgets and put them in the order you want, by dragging them or with the up and down buttons, and save the result as a named layout. There is a template to start from for each ready-made profile, and a layout can be given to a whole WordPress role or to one person. A layout given to the person wins, then a layout given to their role, then the layout of their profile.

Three department dashboards are built in. The Warehouse dashboard shows orders awaiting picking, orders ready to dispatch, overdue orders, stock issues and a fulfilment overview, with a printable picking list of the paid orders waiting, their items, quantities and delivery addresses and a total for each product. WooCommerce has no packed step of its own, so you choose which order status means ready to dispatch. The Customer Service dashboard has a box to find a customer or order, orders on hold, refunds, failed or on-hold orders, customer notes and recent customer orders. The Marketing dashboard has the sales chart, best-selling products, coupon performance, customer growth, abandoned checkouts and sales by source.

Make the admin yours. Menu editing renames menu groups and items, reorders them, hides items and adds your own groups and links, for every profile or for one. Branding adds your company name and logo, an accent colour and your branding on the sign-in page, and a quieter admin means fewer toolbar items, your own footer text and no WordPress news box for people on a profile. Alerts on the dashboard tell you about low stock, failed payments, unusually high refunds, overdue orders, a spike in abandoned checkouts and store health problems, with a limit you choose for each figure. They are shown on the dashboard and are not emailed. Each person can fold the Alerts card up or dismiss an alert for themselves, and a dismissed alert comes back when the figure behind it changes.

A profile only changes how the menu is drawn and which widgets open first. Every page, button and action keeps the permission check it already had, and WordPress and WooCommerce permissions are never changed or bypassed. The dashboard and the settings can never be hidden from the menu, administrators can always get back to the standard admin, and a menu with nothing in it falls back to the standard one. It is compatible with High-Performance Order Storage.

Nothing about your orders or customers ever leaves your site. The licence check and the update check contact PluginCity and send your licence key, the site address and the plugin and WordPress versions, and nothing else. Updates arrive on your Plugins screen like any other. If the licence lapses, nothing is deleted and nothing breaks. Your layouts, profiles, menu changes and branding stay saved and stay on the screens you set them on, where you can read them but not change them, and everyone goes back to the four ready-made profiles with their standard dashboards and menus. The licence screen lists exactly what is being ignored, and renewing switches it all back on as you left it.

The Commerce Dashboard on the Owner / Manager profile: alerts, today's sales against yesterday, a 7 or 30 day chart, then sales by category and payment method, coupon performance and customer growth.
The Warehouse dashboard: a fulfilment overview, orders awaiting picking, orders ready to dispatch, overdue orders and stock issues. Ready to dispatch lists the status chosen under Widgets: here, a Packed status added to this demo shop.
The Customer Service dashboard: find a customer or order, then orders on hold, refunds, failed and on-hold orders, customer notes and recent customer orders.
The Marketing dashboard: the sales chart, best-selling products, coupon performance, customer growth, abandoned checkouts and sales by source.
The printable picking list: everything to pick with its SKU and quantity, then each order with its items, ready to print from the browser.
The dashboard builder: tick the widgets a layout shows and put them in order by dragging or with the arrows. This layout is named Morning pack.
A layout for a whole role, and a layout for one person, which takes priority over the role's.
A custom profile: its name, what it is for, a dashboard layout, the menu groups it keeps and the page it lands on.
Role rules: everyone with a WordPress role gets a profile without being set up one by one.
Menu editing: rename an item, move it to another group, hide it or put it in a new order, for every profile or for one.
Branding, a quieter admin and alerts: your company name, logo and accent colour, and the limit for each alert.

Frequently asked questions

Does it replace the WordPress admin?

No. It adds a dashboard and redraws the menu for the people who work on the shop, who start on the Owner or Manager profile until you choose otherwise. Every page is still the one WordPress and WooCommerce provide, and the standard admin is one click away. To keep the standard admin, choose Standard WordPress as the default profile, or for one person.

Will the Commerce Dashboard open when people sign in?

Yes, from the moment the plugin is activated, for people who can use it and are on a profile. It opens in place of the WordPress dashboard when they sign in or click Dashboard, and the WordPress dashboard is always one link away. You can turn this off for the whole shop, for each profile and for each person.

Can it lock me or my team out?

No. Profiles change only how the menu is drawn. Every page keeps its own permission check, administrators can always switch to the standard admin, and if a profile would leave someone with an empty menu they get the standard one. In an emergency, add define( 'PLUGINCITY_CD_DISABLE', true ); to wp-config.php to put everyone back on the standard admin.

Does it create user roles?

No. A person's profile is one value on their user account. What they are allowed to do is still decided by their WordPress and WooCommerce role.

What are the profiles?

There are four ready-made profiles: Owner or Manager, Warehouse, Customer Service and Marketing. A profile only changes how the menu is drawn and which widgets open first. You can also make custom profiles with their own name, description, layout, menu groups and landing page.

How do I give everyone with a role the same profile?

Under Access, set a role rule. Everyone with that WordPress role gets the profile, unless you have given them one yourself under People or an override.

Which layout does a person get when there are several?

A layout given to the person wins, then a layout given to their role, then the layout of their profile. For the profile itself, an override for the person wins, then the profile chosen for them, then a rule for their role, then the default profile.

How do I build my own dashboard?

Under Layouts, choose the widgets and put them in the order you want by dragging them or with the up and down buttons, then name and save the layout. There is a template to start from for each ready-made profile. Then give the layout to a whole role or to one person.

Can I rename menu items and add my own links?

Yes. Under Navigation you can rename menu groups and items, move an item to another group, reorder items, hide them and add your own groups and links, for every profile or for one.

Can I hide a menu item from someone who must not use it?

Hiding an item only takes it off the menu. It does not change what the person is allowed to do, because that is still decided by their WordPress role. To stop someone using a page, change their role.

How does the Ready to dispatch widget know which orders are packed?

WooCommerce has no packed step of its own. Under Widgets, choose the status your team moves an order to when it is packed and waiting for the courier, such as one you add with a status plugin. Until you do, the widget says so instead of guessing.

Can I print a picking list?

Yes. The picking list is under Orders in the menu. It lists the orders that are paid and waiting, with the items, quantities and delivery address of each and a total for each product, and prints cleanly from the browser.

Which alerts are there, and can I set the limits?

Low stock, failed payments, unusually high refunds, overdue orders, a spike in abandoned checkouts and store health problems. Each has a limit you choose, except store health, which is raised whenever a problem is found. An alert appears at the top of the dashboard for the people whose role may see what it is about.

Do alerts send emails?

No. Alerts appear at the top of the dashboard when something goes past a limit you set. Anyone can fold the card up or dismiss an alert for themselves without changing it for anybody else, and a dismissed alert comes back when the figure behind it changes.

How are sales worked out?

Sales are paid orders (Processing and Completed) less refunds, on the shop's own clock. Abandoned checkouts are unpaid orders left alone for over an hour. Figures are kept for a few minutes and refreshed as soon as an order or a product's stock changes.

Does everyone see every figure?

No. Each widget is shown only to someone whose role may see what it shows, so a Warehouse profile on a person who cannot read reports leaves the sales widgets out.

Does it work with High-Performance Order Storage?

Yes. Orders are read through WooCommerce's own order functions, so it works whether orders are kept in posts or in the order tables.

Does it send any data out?

Nothing about your orders or customers ever leaves your site. The licence check and the update check contact PluginCity, and send the licence key, the site address and the plugin and WordPress versions. Nothing else is sent.

How do I install it and what does it need?

Download the ZIP from your PluginCity account, then go to Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP and click Install Now. If an earlier copy of the plugin is already installed, choose Replace current with uploaded: every setting you have made is kept. It needs WordPress 6.7 or later, WooCommerce 10.0 or later with WooCommerce active, and PHP 8.1 or later. There is nothing else to install alongside it.

How do updates and the licence key work?

Paste your licence key under WooCommerce, Dashboard settings, Licence. Updates then arrive on your Plugins screen like any other, and the key keeps the layouts, profiles, menu editing, branding and alerts editable. A new install has 14 days before that starts to matter.

What happens if my licence lapses?

Nothing is deleted. Your layouts, profiles, menu changes and branding stay saved and can still be read but not changed, and everyone goes back to the four ready-made profiles with their standard dashboards and menus. Renewing brings it all back as you left it.

What happens if I deactivate WooCommerce?

The plugin steps aside and shows a notice. It does not fatally error, and your settings are waiting when WooCommerce comes back.
